LS Retail announces out of the box robot integration to automate dispensing and inventory management in pharmacies
We are excited to announce a new integration for pharmacies using the standard WWKS2 communication protocol, created by BD ROWA and supported by many leading pharmacy robot providers. This integration enables pharmacies using LS Central to connect directly with compatible robots, automating dispensing and picking processes while maintaining accurate inventory from a single system. The integration works with a range of pharmacy robot providers, including PCS Professional Clinical Software, helping pharmacies improve efficiency and accuracy in their operations.
A complete software platform for modern pharmacies
LS Central for pharmacies is LS Retail’s unified software that delivers specialized functionality for pharmacies. LS Central covers all the daily needs of pharmacy businesses, allowing them to accurately manage prescriptions, track expiry dates and recalls, and suggest generic or parallel medication substitutions alongside general retail sales. The system also supports customer safety through features such as pick control, FMD control, label printing, and other pharmacy-specific permissions. LS Central for pharmacies is already the software of choice for global pharmacy brands, such as Boots, Norsk Medisinaldepot AS (NMD), and Apoteksgruppen.
Automating pharmacy operations with the WWKS2 standard
With this new out-of-the-box integration to the WWSK2 communication protocol, LS Central can send prescription and product information to any robot dispensing unit, which then selects, packages, and delivers the correct medication to the cashier. Employees can also send purchase orders to the robotic system for automated restocking, ensuring that incoming products are stored quickly and correctly. As items are dispensed or added to inventory, stock levels are automatically updated in LS Central, providing precise traceability and inventory control.
Driving real results with pharmacy innovation
PCS Professional Clinical Software GmbH, part of the GPI Group, has been a leader in healthcare software for over 35 years, supports hospitals, rehabilitation centers, care facilities, and pharmacies with innovative solutions spanning hospital information systems, nursing documentation, therapy and surgical planning, telemedicine, and automated pharmacy logistics.
Through the WWKS2 communication standard, PCS robots such as the RIEDL Phasys and EASY Phasys can now connect directly with LS Central — automating dispensing, inventory, and warehouse operations.
The Icelandic pharmacy chain Lyfja was the first to go live with this integration using the RIEDL Phasys robot.
“Pharmacies handle thousands of medicines daily and doing so efficiently is critical to their operations,” says Vesna Bradicic, Automation Business Line Director at PCS Professional Clinical Software. “With the RIEDL Phasys robot we help pharmacies simplify stock handling, reduce errors, and deliver medicines much faster and more accurately than the manual processes they often rely on.”
“The ability to dispense medicine directly from our pharmacy robotics system from the POS through LS Central takes care of routine work that allows our pharmacists and trained staff to spend more time with the customer and providing pharmacy consultations,” says Thorvaldur Einarsson, Chief Technology Officer at Lyfja. “It also gives us an accurate inventory status at all times.”
The implementation and ongoing support of the pharmacy robot integration are led by LS Retail Consulting, the division responsible for delivering expert guidance and tailored solutions to LS Retail partners and customers worldwide.
“We are proud to introduce this innovative integration for pharmacies, enabling faster, more efficient operations while maintaining the highest standards of security and reliability,” says Johann Thorlaksson, Chief Consulting Officer at LS Retail. “By combining LS Central’s powerful pharmacy management features with modern dispensing technology, pharmacies can reduce manual workload, minimize human error, and improve operational speed.”
Because of LS Central’s flexibility and specialized industry functionality, the same robotics-driven automation can also be adapted across retail and hospitality.
