Business case
Stromma operates 13 different sales locations in Amsterdam, including fixed shops as well as mobile sales points on boats and buses. Their business model requires fast, reliable transactions in highly dynamic environments, often with large volumes of international tourists. This created several key challenges:
-
The need to sell on-the-go without being tied to a fixed checkout
-
Support for multiple payment methods and currencies
-
Fast onboarding and training of seasonal staff
-
Centralized control over sales operations to reduce errors and maintain data accuracy
-
High transaction speed to improve customer experience during peak times
Stromma needed a flexible, scalable point-of-sale solution that could support both stationary and mobile sales while maintaining full visibility and control at headquarters level.
Solution
Stromma implemented the LS Retail Point of Sale (POS) system across all 13 locations, including the use of mobile POS (mPOS) devices. The mPOS solution is fully wireless and integrated with payment terminals, allowing staff to complete transactions anywhere, whether in a shop, on a boat, or on a bus.
The LS Retail POS system supports a wide range of payment types, including vouchers, cash, and credit/debit cards, as well as multi-currency transactions, which was a critical requirement given Stromma’s international customer base.
The implementation was completed in less than three months, minimizing disruption to daily operations. Management can now determine what sales staff can see and do, ensuring consistent processes across all locations. "It’s wireless and connected to a payment device," says Nick Rutten, Functional Application Manager at Stromma. "Overall, using the LS Retail POS system helped improve customer service and transaction speed, and we are very satisfied with our choice."
